Desford Girls U15’s – vs – Leicester City LFC ’66 U15’s
01 Sept 2019 – KO: 10:30
Ref: Annabelle Rostron
1st league game of the season saw the girls face a very strong Desford team. The pitch was very heavy as the grass had been cut but not cleared off, lovely weather for football though and the girls were ready to start their season.
Desford had kick-off and started the game well organised, the girls managed to break their defence down a few times but were slow to react to the quick break and ball over the top for which they were punished for with Desford opening the scoring inside of 5 minutes, they quickly followed that up with a 2nd goal going down the same route and punting a ball over the top for their Striker to run onto and slot home.
The girls huddled while the Desford girls were celebrating and had a word with eachother, they restarted the match and within a minute of the restart had pulled a goal back with a lovely display of football passing their way through and around the Desford Midfield and Defence to send Mia through on goal to bury home.
Now the girls had got a grasp of the game and pressed on with trying to get that 2nd. Daisy made a run through the Desford back line and forced an excellent save from the keeper, then Rhianna did the same but firing against the upright. Jasmin had a run through the middle and a log shot to the corner tipped around the post.
Finally though after all the peppering of the goal and only 1 shot from Desford after the 2 goals went in the breakthrough came, Rhea picked the ball up after Evie had spread it wide, she sent it inside to Sienna who skipped past 1 then played a clever little one two with Jasmin sent the ball out wide for Rhianna who fed it into the box with a lovely weighted pass and Jasmin finished.
Halftime came quickly after that and the girls had some much needed refreshments and a quick chat about what they needed to do to break down the defence more.
Off they went in the 2nd half, the ball was fed back to Drew who laid it out to the wing for Scarlet to find Jasmin on the inside and then Daisy was set off into the box and she crossed for Mia to power past the keeper and take the lead in match.
The girls started their high press game and from the restart they won the ball back forcing Desford back into their own half. Mia came close again when she rounded the keeper and found the side netting, Daisy was another with an excellent solo effort where she skipped through the defence and forced a fingertip save from the keeper but it was some excellent football from Rhianna and Mia that added the teams 4th with a lovely quick a turned and launched a 30 yard shot into the top corner.
With the girls continuing their assault on their goal, our defensive line of Rhea, Evie, Katie and Erin had held well since the early goals but a loose pass saw the Desford striker get in the way and it ricochet off her so she could head towards goal and push it past Faith, who managed to get finger tips on it but only managing to knock it onto the post and in.
The Desford girls managed to make a way through the back line latching onto a ball over the top and heading towards to goal from the right there was a coming together and from the my angle caused the player tripped over her own feet but the ref deemed it to be a penalty, the Desford girl stepped up and sent the ball into the corner but Faith was up to the task and pushed it past the post for a corner.
The penalty save caused a stir in the girls quickly won the ball back from the resulting corner and they set on their way to restore their 2 goal cushion, Faith sent the ball out to Katie, she switched it to the left, Daisy moved it inside to Sienna for her to turn the midfield, send a pass out wide for Rhianna to move the ball inside for Daisy to strike and force a save from the keeper, the rebound fell to her and she struck the oncoming defender, she collected the ball again and pulled the trigger for it to catch the keepers glove, bounce off the post and come back to her, she turned inside and let loose again for the ball to come straight back to her off the post but it was 5th time lucky when she unleashed again and as the ball bounced up nicely for her she powered the ball into the back of the net for the teams 5th, 5th seemed to be the theme of that goal.
After the celebrations the girls pressed on and quickly won the ball back from the Desford midfield and pressured their backline, Daisy again coming close with a quick shot that the keeper was equal to and Jasmin and Mia trying their luck from range but it was Rhianna that added a bit more class to the game when she skipped inside and sent the ball across for Mia to collect, round the keeper and put in from the tightest of angles to complete her hat trick.
The game was drawing to a close and as the girls were applying pressure to the Desford the Fullbacks had pressed on with Erin sending of a pin point cross from the left that Drew rose to head straight at the keeper, she managed to save it and kick it straight down the pitch which the Desford striker latched onto and ran straight through and slotted it past Faith to make the score 6-4 as the ref blew the whistle.
Final score 4-6
