About Us
A brief history about us
Leicester City Ladies was formed in 1966 and are on record as being the oldest womens football club in the country. 2 seasons ago we celebrated 50 years as a football club. Neil Crosgray and Matt Juby founded this team with the club in May of 2011 under the name Leicester City Ladies `66. We started off with a small group of girls playing in 5 a-side competitions as no leagues were available for our age group. The girls found success from the very start, they completed 2 seasons of Brockington College competitions with a 100% win ratio and conceeded only a handful of goals.
During both summer off seasons the girls entered 6 tournaments in total and came away with the winners trophies from all of them. Leicester Academy took quite alot of notice of the standard of football the girls were playing at such a young age and out of the 14 girls that were signed on to the club asked for 11 to go and train with them.
Then 2013-14 saw the girls go into their 1st recordable season, with them conceeding only 4 goals the entire season and winning the league cup, county cup and league title. They had set a standard they wanted to keep up and followed that on with 3 trophies from summer tournaments as well as winning our own summer tournament and then an unbeliveable display of dominance in the local futsal finals, the area futsal finals which put them through to the national finals held in Birmingham, where they worked their way through the group stages, last 16, quaters and semi final to beat a very strong and the favourites West Ham girls 3-1 to being crowned National Futsal Champions of England.
3 more trophies on the run up to the start of the 2014-15 saw the girls continue their successful run, 1 of which being our own tournament where the girls beat a very strong Nottingham Fortest side in the final, smiles were cut short though when the girls were forced to stay in the now non-competitive under 10’s age group as the age restriction was changed from being able to play 2 years up to only 1 year. This caused a bit of upheaval in the squad as 8 of the girls were offered contracts with Leicester Academy to which 5 took them up on the offer, the teams goal keeper decided to step up to the older age group and 3 players joined the Northampton ACC but where still allowed to play for the team due to them being a development centre, so a month before the seaon started we had to prepare the girls and settle in the new additions that had come along. The girls rallied quickly though and pressed on and other than recieving their 1st ever defeat they won the league again comfortably that season scoring well over 100 goals between them in 28 games. The league also decided there would be no league cup that year. More summer tournaments for the girls brought success with them winning the 2 they enterd, one of which was our own which we retained for the 3rd year in a row. We also re-entered the Futsal competitions that summer and secured the the Local and Area finals and went on to Birmingham where the girls managed to reach the semi-final, they were beaten by a very strong Crystal Palace side 2-1.
The 2015-16 season saw the girls were being tracked by Leicester Citys Academy coaches again and 3 more snapped up by them and offered contracts but 2 more came back from them and rejoined the club, we also had the 3 rejoin the Northampton ACC which still allowed these girls to play for the team, also a few new girls joined the team as the season got underway, even though the FA had decided again to make their age group non competitive the girls showed their dominance, they went through the season unbeaten and scored an abundance of goals. The 2 summer tournaments the girls entered saw them pick up winners trophies in both. The futsal this year was a tough ask for the girls as they were having to play at least 1 year up against older girls but they did put on a fine dispaly and managed to secure 2nd place in the Local Finals.
The 2016-17 season saw the girls move to playing 9v9 and as usual the Leicester Academy was knocking back on the door for the girls but instead of loosing girls to them this time around we had 3 return, 1 of which was called up to the Wales under 14 national team. The season started well and the girls dominated the 1st half of the season going unbeaten until Christmas, then a few shock results happened and we were playing catch up, the girls were unlucky to only secured 2nd place in the league but won the League Cup. Tournaments were hard to come by that summer and the girls only enetered the 1 which they comfortably won where they beat the team in the final that pipped them to the league. They again entered the Futsal putting 2 teams in this time adding a few of the younger age groups girls to give them some 1st hand experience of the game, they came in 1st and 2nd in the Local Finals and went onto the Regional finals to miss out on a place a Birmingham by a Goal from one of our former players that was playing for her school that is now also a young england trainee.
The 2017-18 season came around and with a few friendlies played the girls were itching for the season to begin but with a few teams pulling out of the league we had to wait until the end of september for our 1st match. The girls lost the openning fixture but went on to win their next 9 games comfortably, then an over confident display in the County Cup 1st round saw them take an early exit, they made up for this with the next few league games and pushed on with some fantastic displays of football. As the season drew to a close the girls won their 1st trophy in the form of the Chairmans Invitation Cup Final, then they went on to secure 2nd place in the league and winning the League Cup Final.
The girls are currently playing in the top division of their age group and with the new additional players that have been added to the squad this summer the girls are determined to regain the league title that has been within touching distance for the last 2 seasons.
